The 15-minute practice rule

Short, daily practice beats long weekend sessions for almost every creative and technical skill.

LA Learnexai Admin · 29 October 2026 · 1 min read

Whether it's guitar, drawing or spreadsheets, frequency beats duration. Fifteen focused minutes a day adds up to more than a three-hour session once a week.

Why it works

  • Your brain consolidates skills between sessions, so more sessions means more consolidation.
  • Short sessions are easier to start, so you skip fewer days.
  • You stop before you're tired, which keeps practice enjoyable.

How to set it up

  1. Choose a fixed trigger: after morning coffee, or right after work.
  2. Prepare your materials the night before.
  3. Use a timer and stop when it rings, even if you're enjoying it.
  4. Write one line about what you practised.

After a month, look back at your notes. You'll be surprised.
