Planning your first course outline

Before you press record, spend an hour on your outline. It will save you days of editing.

Every good course starts as a short list on paper. Here is the process we recommend to creators publishing on the platform.

Start with the outcome

Write one sentence: By the end of this course, learners will be able to… If you can't finish that sentence, the course isn't ready to plan.

Work backwards

List the 5 to 8 steps a beginner needs to reach that outcome. Each step becomes a lesson.

Keep lessons short

Aim for 6 to 15 minutes per lesson. If a lesson runs longer, it's probably two lessons.

Add one exercise per lesson

Learners remember what they do, not what they watch.

Choose your preview lesson

Your first lesson is often your free preview, so make it show your teaching style and the end result.

When your outline is ready, create the course in the studio and add lessons one by one. You can reorder them at any time before submitting for review.
